There are so many great places to get dinner in Detroit, and it’s a great way to start your night. However, sometimes the night goes long, or the dinner was too early, and you’ll want a place to grab food later at night.

Thankfully, Detroit also has restaurants with kitchens open late, so you can grab a bite to eat and hang out to end the night.

Located right next door to each other, Lafayette and American have been slinging up delicious coney dogs for decades.

No matter which one you choose, you’ll be able to chow down on a couple of coneys with a side of fries and a pop, a perfect way to end your night out in Detroit.

Just outside of Campus Martius is Checker Bar, a great place with a dive bar feel. The bar is open late and so is the kitchen so that you can get that midnight snack.

No matter what you’re feeling, Checker Bar has it, from pizza to burgers, chicken, wings, sandwiches, and more.

Try the Lava Balls, which are pepper jack cheese balls tossed in buffalo sauce, or give the breakfast burger a try, a beef patty topped with mayo and a fried egg.

Some of the best wings in Michigan are at Sweetwater Tavern, which is located a few blocks away from Campus Martius.

The corner bar has wings that are marinated for 24 hours and have a ton of flavor without being too spicy.

If you’re looking for something other than wings, you can get a variety of appetizers, or a pulled pork sandwich, burger, or steak. The kitchen closes at 1:45 a.m. on weekends.

Brass Rail is in a great location, just a few blocks from Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena, and several of the theatres. They’re open until 3 a.m. on weekends and serve up food late.

They have dozens of pizza styles, or you can build your own. If you’re feeling something else, they have burgers, salads, sandwiches, and a variety of appetizers.

On weekends, Old Shillelagh in Greektown is a great place to hang out and snack on some late-night food with something for everyone.

Their main menu includes sandwiches and wraps, quarter-pound Michigan grass-fed burgers, appetizers, some Irish fare, and more.

For those who are vegetarian or vegan, the bar also has plant-based offerings like jackfruit Reuben rolls, a beyond burger, beyond chicken fingers, salads, and more.

Inside the Brakeman in Downtown Detroit, Penny Red’s is serving up delicious, crispy chicken until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

If you’re feeling a sandwich, they have a few you can try, or you can get “buckets of damn fine fried chicken” up to 20 pieces.

Make sure you get some honey butter biscuits on the side, or some Mexican street corn, potato salad, or French fries.

Tin Roof is also near The District Detroit and has a huge menu that includes a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, burgers, tacos, mac & cheese, quesadillas, chicken tenders, wings, and more.

While their kitchen isn’t open as late as some of the other restaurants, their menu is vast with delicious food for everyone.

In the District Detroit, Eminem’s take-out spot “Mom’s Spaghetti” is named after a famous line in his hit song “Lose Yourself.”

The takeout window in an alley serves up food until midnight with a limited menu.

You can get spaghetti, spaghetti with meatballs, a spaghetti sandwich, spaghetti Bolognese or a Bolognese sandwich.

A legendary coney island spot in Southwest Detroit, Duly’s Place is among the top spots for a coney dog in metro Detroit.

Their kitchen is open 24 hours on weekends and usually closes at 2 a.m. Monday for a few hours before opening back up at 8 a.m.

If you’re looking to get something besides a coney, they also have breakfast with eggs and potatoes, omelets, pita sandwiches, grilled sandwiches and more.

Along Michigan Ave. in Southwest Detroit, Telway Hamburgers is a historic corner spot serving sliders for decades.

They’re open late with a walk-up window so you can get fresh sliders with or without cheese, and you must get them with fresh grilled onions.
